Martial arts training gives you confidence and discipline while also getting you into shape
We would love to have you as our next student!
What You Discover When You Finally Join an Adult Martial Arts Class in Las Vegas
you already know how easy it is to postpone yourself. You work. You drive. You handle other people’s needs. You tell yourself you will get in shape when the schedule calms down. You tell yourself you will learn self-defense “one of these days.” Then another year goes by, and you are still the same person you were last September — a little stiffer, a little more tired, a little less sure of what your body can do. You do not need another lecture about discipline.
You need a place where you can rebuild yourself without pretending you are twenty-two.
If you have been circling the idea of training, this is what actually happens to you when you stop circling and step on the mat.
The mistake most adults make about martial arts
If you are over 30, and especially if you are over 40, you already know the quiet arithmetic of adult life.
The mornings feel heavier. The workday never quite ends. The gym membership you bought in January has become a monthly donation. You tell yourself you will get serious “when things slow down,” and then another year goes by.
Most adults do not wake up craving a fight. They wake up wanting their body back. They want their mind to stop racing. They want to feel capable again — not in the vague, motivational-poster sense, but in the bone-deep way a person feels when they know they can handle themselves.

That is why so many grown men and women, after years of ignoring the idea, walk into a martial arts school and stay.
Not because they secretly want to become fighters. Because martial arts, practiced properly, solves several adult problems at once — and it does so in a way the treadmill never will.
Martial arts gives you a different type of workout
You will improve your cardio
First, cardio conditioning is essential for fighting. By far the best exercises are padwork and forms. Both of these drills get your blood pumping. don't just tone one specific area of your body.
Padwork similar to what you see in a cardio kickboxing class, is a two person drill where your partner holds pads while you punch at full speed and power. Sometimes when doing this type of work your arms get so tired that they start to feel heavy like they are somehow weighted down. Combine this with footwork and now you are breathing hard and you are just waiting for the round to end.
Forms have a similar effect. Forms are pre-choreographed series of martial arts moves that you memorize. Think of shadowboxing but with kung fu blocks and strikes. It works out your: Legs, Core, Abdominal's, Chest, Biceps ...and everything else in between.
Honestly, this is the secret that makes martial arts training such a great way to lose weight is that martial arts moves utilize the muscles in the entire body.
You will get more flexible
Secondly, there is flexibility. Think about this, old age is really a loss of flexibility and suppleness of your body.
Think about the last time you saw an 80 year old. Most people at that age have lost 99% of their flexibility. flexibility training will keep you young
Most people wish they were more flexible but don’t do anything about it. However, training in martial arts will give you flexibility without having to stretch for hours at a time.
It all depends on the type of stretching you do. Here, you will learn how to actively stretch and stretch with motion rather than just static stretching.
Flexibility is essential for our kickboxing classes.
You will improve your strength
Third, Martial arts classes gives you strength.
Martial arts is not concerned with how big your muscles are. Instead you need functional strength.
You will be doing a lot of body weight exercises in our adult class.
Don't underestimate body weight pushups and body weight squats!
Both of these very simple exercises can be killer if done with intensity and for a high number of reps.
The strength that you gain from doing these drills will increase you striking power. It won't make you look like a bodybuilder but you will definately notice a difference in how toned you get.
Martial arts gets you into the best shape of your life
Be honest. You have already tried the usual options.
You joined a gym. You lasted long enough to memorize which machines face the TVs. You bought resistance bands. You promised yourself you would walk more. None of it stuck, and you blamed your willpower.
The problem was not you.
The problem was that most adult exercise asks you to suffer in place. You count. You watch the clock. You leave with nothing in your hands except sweat.
When you train here, you get a different kind of workout. In one 90-minute adult class, you work your lungs, your legs, your hips, your grip, and your attention at the same time. You throw. You strike pads. You learn a form. You drill a close-range Wing Chun movement until your arms understand it. You practice Kali footwork with a stick in your hand. You learn how to fall in Judo so the ground stops being an enemy.
You are not staring at a wall.
You are learning something you can use.
That is why you will stay when you would have quit the treadmill. Your mind has a job. Your body follows. Time disappears. You look up and class is over, and you realize you worked harder than you meant to — because you were busy becoming competent.
You will improve your cardio through pad work and forms. You will get more flexible because the stretching here is not a bored afterthought; it is built into the motion. You will build functional strength with the kind of work that makes a punch land and a throw stick — pushups, stance work, gripping, turning, standing up under pressure. You will not be bodybuilding for a mirror. You will be building a body that works in the world you actually live in.

And if weight has been following you around Las Vegas like an unpaid bill, you may finally have a way to address it that does not depend on hating every session. You burn calories because you are immersed. You come back because you want the next piece of the puzzle. The scale, when it moves, is a side effect of a life you are willing to keep living.
You Walk In Nervous. That Is Normal.
You will probably feel it in the parking lot.
You will wonder if you are too old. Too out of shape. Too uncoordinated. You will picture a room full of athletes waiting to judge you.
That picture is not this school.
Most students start with no previous experience. Adults walk in every month who have not done anything “remotely active,” as one of our students put it after nine months of training. He left more fit and more self-confident than he expected. You can do the same.
Renee is often the first person you meet. Students say the same thing: you get greeted warmly. You do not feel out of place. You are not a transaction.

This is not boot camp. This is not a competitive kickboxing factory designed to embarrass beginners. You work at your own pace. You are never too old to start. You are never “not athletic enough.” Those sentences are not slogans on our site. They are the operating rules of the room.
Your first visit can be a free class. You wear comfortable clothes. You bring water. You leave the shoes off the mats. You watch how the class actually feels before you decide anything. That is the honest way to choose a school, and it is the way we want you to choose us.

Martial arts training gives you confidence
Confidence is a ruined word. Most of what gets sold as confidence is a pose.
The confidence you build here is quieter.
You learn a technique that did not work last week and does work this week. You survive a drill that looked impossible from the chair. You keep showing up when your excuses were ready. You earn a stripe or a rank you cannot buy. You help someone newer than you, and you realize you are no longer the most lost person in the room.
Every class that you attend is you pushing yourself slightly outside of your comfort zone; You push through your previous limits a little every class. Hence, you start to EVOLVE into a mentally strong person that can withstand the pettiness of everyday life with nothing more than a shrug!
You essentially become a fighter outside of the gym, in ALL aspects of your life.
And remember...
Toughness IS confidence.
Remember, belief in yourself comes from accomplishment. In addition, the best part is that the more you achieve in martial arts the more confidence you gain.
Now, of course, it takes hard work and dedication to achieve a high level in martial arts. However, if it were easy, you wouldn't get anything out of it. As a result, you would not feel the same sense of self-confidence your self-esteem would remain the same.
You become more direct. You set a boundary you used to swallow. You stop treating discomfort as danger. The mat teaches you that you can stay in a hard moment and think. Once you have practiced that with a partner in front of you, a difficult conversation at work is just another kind of timing
You do not have to become loud. You have to become capable. Capability shows.
Martial arts classes gives you increased focus and concentration
When you practice the forms and routines of martial arts with real attention, you are not just waving your arms through a pattern.
You are training your mind to stay put. You have to remember the next movement while you feel this one.
You have to watch your posture, your stance, your power, your speed, and your fluidity — all at once — and the moment your thoughts wander, the form tells on you. That kind of diligent practice does something most “focus tips” never will. It forces you to become aware of details you used to ignore. And as you return to those details night after night, your ability to concentrate does not improve in a vague, hopeful way. It grows by leaps and bounds, because you have given your mind a job it cannot fake.
Martial arts training gives you discipline
One of the biggest things you will notice after you start training here is not a new kick. It is a new standard.
Martial arts will not let you succeed on mood. You have to show up when you would rather stay on the couch. You have to repeat the dull drill until it is no longer dull. You have to keep a promise to yourself that nobody else can keep for you. That is self-discipline in its plainest form — and once you have practiced it on the mat, you do not leave it in the locker room.
You take it to work, where the hard project stops looking optional. You take it home, where you become a little more reliable for the people who count on you. The art requires large amounts of discipline from you. Then, almost quietly, it gives that discipline back to the rest of your life.
You will have an improved social life
In today's world of increased isolation, being part of a group of like-minded individuals can be invaluable. Everyone in our adult martial arts and kickboxing program is on the same path as you,
The other students are interested in the same goals. They are working toward improving and bettering themselves, just like you.
Being part of a tribe of people with similar values and goals lead to lasting friendships even outside of the school.
What our adult students are saying about our adult martial arts program
“
I am currently in the best shape of my life but even more important I am gaining confidence in myself that I never thought possible.
Dear Kevin and Renee, I would like to take this time to thank you for the positive changes you and your karate school has made to my life over the last six months.
Before I joined your studio, I called and spoke to Kevin on the telephone. I was inquiring about the type of training you provided. Also, I was looking for a studio that I could learn the art of kung fu but needed a place that was patient and encouraging.
I tried kickboxing class, but it was so impersonal.
In addition, I wanted an Adult Martial Arts program that engaged my mind and body. I would like to tell you that you have provided this environment and so much more. Honestly, as a thirty-something-year-old mother of two, wife and full-time state employee, I knew that I would not learn things as quickly as a younger person and of course not be in the physical shape like I was in my twenties.
However, your encouragement and patience have made me exceed even my own expectations. Luckily, it has affected the way I approach every aspect of my life. It has truly taught me self discipline, which carries over to everyday activities.
Every time I receive another stripe or belt it is an affirmation that a person can accomplish almost anything by persistence and sheer determination. Your studio is a very warm and friendly place that I actually can't wait to attend twice a week.
Several people have approached me in the last couple of months about how healthy and young I look and I can honestly give you a lot of the credit. Thank you again for the great training and I have and would recommend this karate studio to any women looking for self improvement and physical fitness.

The other students are what makes this school special. The culture here is so friendly.
I've been attending the adult classes for 8 months now and it's been great.
Before joining, I came into this school with no prior martial arts experience. However, that didn't matter here at the academy. The instructors have a great way of teaching. They really break it down for you so that it's understandable. Instructor Kevin provides a good mix of encouragement with constructive feedback.
Also, the other students are what make this school special. The culture here is so friendly.
Fortunately, all of the people I've met in the class are motivated to improve and are extremely helpful when we partner up. Everyone's really patient with each other, so even though the school has mixed levels of experience it works. The advanced students are always willing to help beginners.
If you're looking for a great karate school or kickboxing class and are the fence try signing up for the trial program. You have nothing to lose, and a lot to gain.

How to learn martial arts as an older adult
Well, it's really as easy as showing up for your first class
Be honest, you probably thought to yourself, "I'm too old to start something like this…"
But still, your curiosity led you to this page didn't it? What that tells me is that you are ready to start you just need the will. Yes, the will to stop procrastinating and get going.
Let me tell you, one of the greatest things about martial arts, is that anyone can start learning at any time, all it takes is the will.
No judgment, this is not bootcamp or competitive kickboxing. You take things at your own pace
Adult martial arts classes at our academy are for everyone. All levels of fitness are welcome. Everyone is a work in progress and you have to start somewhere.
Setting small goals for yourself and then accomplishing those goals is the way to fulfill your potential.
Obviously, a college degree is not earned in just a semester. Similarly, Kung Fu can't be mastered in a month. Any big and overwhelming endeavor can be managed successfully by breaking it into manageable sections.
You will Learn
Multiple Styles Of Martial Arts For Adults
Wing Chun
Wing Chun is a close-quarters combat system. Speed and efficiency are its trademark.
Wing Chun uses sensitivity training to make fighting instinctive. When you can fight without thinking you perform at a much higher level.
You will learn how to build habits of how to react instantaneously to all self-defense situations. Wing Chun does not have complicated techniques that are unlikely to work in a real-life fight.
It doesn't have the flashy kicks of Karate, Tae Kwon Do, or Kickboxing.
Instead, Wing Chun simplifies its techniques and strategies so that you can be ready to defend yourself quickly.
Kali / Escrima / Arnis
Kali, Arnis, And Escrima are all names for styles that come from the Philipines. These are weapon-based arts.
Kali, Arnis, And Escrima, are known for having the best strategies for dealing with knives and edged weaponry. Thus, it is one of the main arts studied by special forces around the world.
Although these Filipino martial arts are famous because of the practical weapon defenses, they do contain self-defense techniques. The empty hand curriculum is sometimes known as Panantukan or Suntukan.
Judo
Japanese Judo is a throwing art. Judo is one of the best styles for learning take-downs, tackles, and trips.
Judo is a combative sport. Students compete against each other to try and score points. Points are given for every clean throw. Points can also be one by pinning your opponent to the ground and immobilizing them for half a minute.
Although Judo is a sport and not primarily focused on self-defense (Judo has no punches or karate kicks), It can definitely be used to defend yourself, If you can first strike using some of the other systems offered at our academy then your throwing techniques will become effective for self-defense.
Jeet Kune Do Concepts
Jeet Kune Do is not a style. JKD is better defined as a set of concepts and ideas that you apply to create your own style of fighting.
JKD was created by Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee originally started out by combining two martial arts Western fencing and Wing Chun. He found that he liked some aspects of each style but did not care for other aspects.
Eventually, Bruce Lee learned and incorporate many techniques from various styles like Karate, Wing Chun, Jujitsu, Tae Kwon Do, and Kickboxing to create a way of fighting that was unique to him. He realized that every person will also eventually their own unique style of fighting based on their personality, experience and body type.
Shaolin Kung Fu
Shaolin Kung fu is an ancient system of combat. Long ago, the Buddhist monks who lived at the Shaolin Temple, need a way to defend themselves from attack. Their temple was built far into the mountains. If they were attacked there was no one around to protect them.
Thus, these peaceful monks added daily training in the art of Kung fu to make sure they could defend themselves.
However, the Shaolin Monks also found that Kung Fu gave them the ability to maintain their health through their daily practice of the art
Kung Fu eventually was brought to Japan where it evolved into Karate
Karate eventually was brought to Korea where it became Tae Kwon Do
Kickboxing
You will learn a solid stance, powerful straight punches, hooks, uppercuts, round kicks, front kicks, knees, proper defense, fluid combinations, effective pad work, smart footwork, practical self-defense application, and the focus to perform under fatigue.
Technique comes first.
Intensity follows only when form is sound. Classes stay focused, respectful, and free of ego or sales pressure—designed for adults who want results that last.

You will learn real self-defense that can save your life
But make no mistake about it...
Our Adult Martial Arts program teaches essential self-defense skills. Furthermore, we teach practical, proven self-defense methods that do not rely on individual techniques but rather on principles.
Honestly, real self-defense is not taught at many martial arts schools. Even in MMA, there are quite a few rules that limit you to what you do.
Self-defense starts by knowing how to avoid conflict. Martial artists always walk away from potential fights whenever they can. Martial arts techniques are only used when there is no other option.
That being said, you will learn to quickly incapacitate an attacker using practical self-defense techniques.
For example, you are not allowed to Karate or Tae Kwon Do kick, your opponent in the groin in a boxing match. Moreover, you are not allowed to use any kind of weapon. There are no multiple attackers. Sometimes, strikes to the sensitive areas of the human body such as the eyes throat and groin are all fair game in a real-life self-defense confrontation. One must remember, there are no rules when it comes to protecting yourself and your family.
It is most likely that there is no help on the way and at this point, it will be up to you to go home safe.
The adult martial arts curriculum is put together from reality-based styles and systems. For example, Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Wing Chun, Kali, and Kung Fu are all self-defense based styles that are not meant for the ring.
These are not sports with gentlemen’s rules. They are systems meant to help you go home.
Here is what that means for you.
Wing Chun gives you close-range tools. Speed. Efficiency. Sensitivity. You learn to occupy the centerline and use simple motions instead of flashy kicks you will never throw in a parking garage. When you train the sticky-hands work, you are teaching your arms to answer without a committee meeting in your head.Kali, Escrima, and Arnis teach you weapons the way the world actually uses them. You learn stick and knife strategy, and you also learn the empty-hand side — Panantukan and related boxing — so you are not lost if your hands are empty. You become harder to surprise because you have seen angles most people never practice.Judo teaches you throws, trips, and what to do when the fight leaves its feet. Just as important, you learn how to hit the ground without breaking. That skill alone changes how you move through ordinary life.
Jeet Kune Do is not a costume you put on to look like Bruce Lee. It is a set of concepts. You take what is useful from Wing Chun, boxing, kickboxing, and the other arts on the floor, and you build a way of fighting that fits your body, your timing, your temperament.
You take the strength.
Shaolin Kung Fu gives you the older body of work — forms, applications, structure, the long view of training as health and craft, not only combat.
Kickboxing gives you the engine: stance, straight punches, hooks, uppercuts, kicks, knees, defense, combinations, pad work, footwork
The best styles are the ancient martial arts I have mentioned above because they were designed from the ground up to be practical and effective.
If you live in this city, you already understand why this matters.
You walk to your car. You travel. You work late. You want to know that if something ugly happens, you are not helpless. You also want to know how to avoid the ugly thing in the first place.. You learn technique first. Intensity follows form. You do not flail for a sweat. You build a strike you can trust.
You also learn the unglamorous half of self-defense: awareness, distance, leaving early, using your voice, ending the problem quickly if you cannot leave. If you ever need the physical tools, you want them simple enough to use when you are scared. That is the standard we train to.
You may never need those skills. Most people do not. But you will carry yourself differently once you have them. You will notice exits. You will stand with more weight in your feet. You will feel less like a spectator in your own safety. That feeling is not arrogance. It is competence, and you can earn it on a Tuesday night.
A word of caution: not all martial arts schools are created equal
To begin with, you have so many choices when it comes to enrolling in a martial arts school.
Think about it...
When you enroll in an Adult Martial Arts program you will be spending time, money and effort at the school. Before enrolling, you want to make the right decision from the very beginning.
Finally, we also understand the responsibility that comes with being a martial arts instructor. Most of the times, people look up to their instructors and will make lasting memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.
Passionate instructors who truly care
You will feel it in the first class: our instructors expect something from you. Not perfection. Effort. They will not shrug if you hide in the back, and they will not let you stay lost when a little coaching would set you straight. That is because the people teaching and helping at this academy are passionate and energetic about the work. Some of our instructors have been teaching for 27 years. They still love working with people, and it shows. The best teachers are the ones who are having fun while they teach — and yes, the adult martial arts program is fun. You will work. You will be held to a standard. And you will leave knowing you were taught by people who actually want you to get better.

You will receive personalized instruction
The only way to get you the benefits that you are looking for is to make every class personalized for each student.Let me show you exactly how this works:
First
First, when you come to class it is my job to find out what kind of learner you are. Sometimes, people learn very well through verbal instructions. On the other hand, other students may learn from having me physically go and move their arms in the correct position.
However, others may learn best from seeing some of the advanced students perform movements.
At our academy, there are many teaching techniques we use in class to make sure that every single student walks away from the class with something fresh. However, this doesn't mean we teach something new each class. Instead, we found a way to keep things interesting.
Second
Next, when you start Adult Martial Arts classes at our school you will not just be a number in the crowd. Of course, we (the instructors) know every single student's name in our entire school, and you will soon know everyone's name as well.
Throughout my life, I have been to many martial arts schools and kickboxing classes. Unfortunately, I would at times have to work partner drills with people without even knowing each other's name! At our academy, it is a friendly atmosphere and we all know each other's name.
After all, don't you want to train at a school where everyone is friendly and the atmosphere is non-intimidating?
Here’s what people are saying about our school.
“
I've been training at the Las Vegas Kung Fu Academy for about four months so far.
I came in without any previous martial arts training. I checked out 5 other Karate and Tae Kwoin Do Dojos before coming here.
BOTH the teachers AND students at the Kung Fu Academy are very welcoming. Everyone made me feel comfortable. Instructor Kevin has an insane amount of knowledge and experience across multiple styles.
He always speaks with patience and an awareness of your individual needs. He also has a sense of humor that keeps the classes fun. It's made a big difference in my life,
My favorite part of class is when we do sparring and kickboxing. When I first started I was really afraid of sparring but now I just l love it!
I highly recommend this school!

I am very grateful to have been able to know and learn from you and your family.
It has been almost 2 years now, but it seems much shorter. The time has flown by. I feel so much stronger in every sense possible. Because I have been making Kung Fu a part of my life.
There are so many benefits, where do I begin? From the tremendous boost in self-confidence to the power and speed in which I have developed. The friendships I have made attending classes, and the art forms I have learned. Every aspect of my life has enormously improved I feel directly in response to martial arts training.
Life outside for the school can sometimes interfere with training and makes it challenging to make it to class on time or at all. That is what Kung Fu is though “Hard Work”. I look forward to continuing my training and the improvements I will see as time goes by. So, with my deepest and sincerest respect to you and your family. Thank you.

6 Excuses
Let us take your objections in order, because you will think them in the car.
You Can Start Even If Every Excuse Is True
Let us take your objections in order, because you will think them in the car.
- 1You think you are too old.
You are not. Adults of every decade train here. Tai Chi is on the schedule if you want a gentler door. The adult class meets you where you are. Benefits do not require you to have started at sixteen. - 2You think you are too old.
You are not. Adults of every decade train here. Tai Chi is on the schedule if you want a gentler door. The adult class meets you where you are. Benefits do not require you to have started at sixteen. - 3You think you will look foolish.
You will look like a beginner. So did every competent person in that room. Foolishness is the tuition. It is cheaper than another year of knowing you wanted this and did not try. - 4You think you do not have time.
Adult class is 90 minutes. Two nights a week is enough to begin. We are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. You already spend evenings on things you will not remember. This is an evening you will. - 5You think you might get hurt.
Any physical practice has risk. We run a safety culture: control, tap early, tell us about old injuries, leave your ego in the bag. You can borrow equipment for your trial. You do not have to guess your way into the first night. - 6You think you do not want to fight.
Then you will not be forced to live like a fighter. You can train for fitness, focus, craft, and practical defense without turning your life into a cage. Sparring is a portion of training, not the religion of the school.
If a school makes you feel unwelcome for being adult, beginner, female, heavy, rusty, or cautious, you should leave that school. This one was built for you to stay.
What you are really joining
On paper, you are joining an adult martial arts class in Las Vegas.
In practice, you are taking back a few things this city quietly takes from you.
You get a body that is trained, not merely maintained.
You get a mind that can go quiet on command.
You get skills that make the dark less abstract.
You get a standard you cannot talk your way around.
You get a family-run program on Eastern Avenue where Kevin, Renee, and Isaac will notice if you disappear.
You do not have to become a different species. You have to become a beginner again, on purpose, in arts older than the Strip — Wing Chun, Kali, Judo, Jeet Kune Do, Shaolin Kung Fu, kickboxing — taught by people who still believe the point is self-improvement.
The adults who last here are rarely the most gifted. They are the ones who decided that feeling capable was worth two nights a week.
If that sentence landed, you already know what to do.
Look up the schedule at lvshaolin.com/schedule. Try the free class. Walk in before your reasons have time to renegotiate.
The first night will not make you formidable.
It will do something better.
It will start you.
You will sweat. You will feel uncertain. You will drive home more awake than you were in the parking lot. And you will know, maybe for the first time in a long time, that the person you have been postponing is still available — and that there is a school in Las Vegas ready to meet you on the mat.
See real results today with our Las Vegas adult martial arts classes, where you can combine self-defense and fitness into one!
Do you want to get in shape? Do you want to feel safer walking to your car? Do you want focus? Do you want to train with your kid? We can aim the work if you do not hide the target. Then give it eight weeks. The first two weeks you will feel awkward. The next two you will feel sore. Somewhere in the second month the movement starts to make sense. You will recognize a drill. You will land something clean. You will hear your name. You will realize you are no longer visiting. You are training.Come twice a week if you can. Come more if the hook sets. Set a small goal — learn the first piece of a form, last the whole class without fading, tap and get up and try again — and let the next goal appear after you have earned the first. You can start any week. The program is ongoing. You do not wait for January. You wait for the evening you decide you are done postponing.
