Martial arts training gives you confidence and discipline while also getting you into shape

We would love to have you as our next student!

Martial arts gives you a different type of workout

The workout is not like a typical gym workout. You will do all three types of exercises. Cardio, strength and stretching all at the same time.

You will improve your cardio

First, cardio conditioning is essential for fighting. By far the best exercises are padwork and forms. Both of these drills get your blood pumping. don't just tone one specific area of your body.

Padwork similar to what you see in a cardio kickboxing class, is a two person drill where your partner holds pads while you punch at full speed and power. Sometimes when doing this type of work your arms get so tired that they start to feel heavy like they are somehow weighted down. Combine this with footwork and now you are breathing hard and you are just waiting for the round to end.

Forms have a similar effect. Forms are pre-choreographed series of martial arts moves that you memorize. Think of shadowboxing but with kung fu blocks and strikes. It works out your: Legs, Core, Abdominal's, Chest, Biceps ...and everything else in between.

Honestly, this is the secret that makes martial arts training such a great way to lose weight is that martial arts moves utilize the muscles in the entire body.

You will get more flexible

Secondly, there is flexibility. Think about this, old age is really a loss of flexibility and suppleness of your body.

Think about the last time you saw an 80 year old. Most people at that age have lost 99% of their flexibility. flexibility training will keep you young

Most people wish they were more flexible but don’t do anything about it. However, training in martial arts will give you flexibility without having to stretch for hours at a time.

It all depends on the type of stretching you do. Here, you will learn how to actively stretch and stretch with motion rather than just static stretching.

Flexibility is essential for our kickboxing classes.

You will improve your strength

Third, Martial arts classes gives you strength.

Martial arts is not concerned with how big your muscles are. Instead you need functional strength.

You will be doing a lot of body weight exercises in our adult class.

Don't underestimate body weight pushups and body weight squats!

Both of these very simple exercises can be killer if done with intensity and for a high number of reps.

The strength that you gain from doing these drills will increase you striking power. It won't make you look like a bodybuilder but you will definately notice a difference in how toned you get.

Martial arts gets you into the best shape of your life

Finding a basic fitness routine that you like and enjoy should not be an impossible task. What you need is a routine that isn't dull and boring.

Martial Arts gives you a workout that you can do in under an hour and that works out your whole body from head to toe. Your body is learning to move in new ways. You start to use muscles that you have never engaged before.

As a result of these intense kickboxing type workouts, you will see your metabolism speed up and you will start to burn calories even at rest. Yes you can actually accelerate your body's metabolism.

Kicking Exercises

Martial arts training gives you confidence

The second benefit you will see once you start training here is that you will feel like you have become a lot tougher mentally not just physically.

Every class that you attend is you pushing yourself slightly outside of your comfort zone; You push through your previous limits a little every class. Hence, you start to EVOLVE into a mentally strong person that can withstand the pettiness of everyday life with nothing more than a shrug!

You essentially become a fighter outside of the gym, in ALL aspects of your life.

And remember...

Toughness IS confidence.

Remember, belief in yourself comes from accomplishment. In addition, the best part is that the more you achieve in martial arts the more confidence you gain.

Now, of course, it takes hard work and dedication to achieve a high level in martial arts. However, if it were easy, you wouldn't get anything out of it. As a result, you would not feel the same sense of self-confidence your self-esteem would remain the same.

Martial arts classes gives you increased focus and concentration

Improved focus comes from the diligent practice of the forms and routines found in the martial arts.

Sometimes, when you have to memorize and be aware of every detail of your posture, stance power, speed and fluidity, your ability to focus, grows by leaps and bounds.

Martial arts training gives you discipline

One of the biggest benefits of training here is the improvement you will see in your level of discipline. To be successful in the martial arts, large amounts of self-discipline are required.

As a result, this kind of discipline translates directly to all other areas of your life, such as work and family.

You will have an improved social life

In today's world of increased isolation, being part of a group of like-minded individuals can be invaluable. Everyone in our adult martial arts and kickboxing  program is on the same path as you,

The other students are interested in the same goals. They are working toward improving and bettering themselves, just like you.

Being part of a tribe of people with similar values and goals lead to lasting friendships even outside of the school.

What our adult students are saying about our adult martial arts program

I am currently in the best shape of my life but even more important I am gaining confidence in myself that I never thought possible.

Dear Kevin and Renee, I would like to take this time to thank you for the positive changes you and your karate school has made to my life over the last six months.

Before I joined your studio, I called and spoke to Kevin on the telephone. I was inquiring about the type of training you provided. Also, I was looking for a studio that I could learn the art of kung fu but needed a place that was patient and encouraging.

I tried kickboxing class, but it was so impersonal.

In addition, I wanted an Adult Martial Arts program that engaged my mind and body. I would like to tell you that you have provided this environment and so much more. Honestly, as a thirty-something-year-old mother of two, wife and full-time state employee, I knew that I would not learn things as quickly as a younger person and of course not be in the physical shape like I was in my twenties.

However, your encouragement and patience have made me exceed even my own expectations. Luckily, it has affected the way I approach every aspect of my life. It has truly taught me self discipline, which carries over to everyday activities.

Every time I receive another stripe or belt it is an affirmation that a person can accomplish almost anything by persistence and sheer determination. Your studio is a very warm and friendly place that I actually can't wait to attend twice a week.

Several people have approached me in the last couple of months about how healthy and young I look and I can honestly give you a lot of the credit. Thank you again for the great training and I have and would recommend this karate studio to any women looking for self improvement and physical fitness.

The other students are what makes this school special. The culture here is so friendly.

I've been attending the adult classes for 8 months now and it's been great.

Before joining, I came into this school with no prior martial arts experience. However, that didn't matter here at the academy. The instructors have a great way of teaching. They really break it down for you so that it's understandable. Instructor Kevin provides a good mix of encouragement with constructive feedback.

Also, the other students are what make this school special. The culture here is so friendly.

Fortunately, all of the people I've met in the class are motivated to improve and are extremely helpful when we partner up. Everyone's really patient with each other, so even though the school has mixed levels of experience it works. The advanced students are always willing to help beginners.

If you're looking for a great karate school or kickboxing class and are the fence try signing up for the trial program. You have nothing to lose, and a lot to gain.

How to learn martial arts as an older adult

Well, it's really as easy as showing up for your first class

Be honest,  you probably thought to yourself, "I'm too old to start something like this…"

But still, your curiosity led you to this page didn't it? What that tells me is that you are ready to start you just need the will. Yes, the will to stop procrastinating and get going.

Let me tell you, one of the greatest things about martial arts, is that anyone can start learning at any time, all it takes is the will.

No judgment, this is not bootcamp or competitive kickboxing. You take things at your own pace

Adult martial arts classes at our academy are for everyone. All levels of fitness are welcome. Everyone is a work in progress and you have to start somewhere.

Setting small goals for yourself and then accomplishing those goals is the way to fulfill your potential.

Obviously, a college degree is not earned in just a semester. Similarly, Kung Fu can't be mastered in a month. Any big and overwhelming endeavor can be managed successfully by breaking it into manageable sections.

You will Learn

Multiple Styles Of Martial Arts For Adults

Wing Chun

Wing Chun is a close-quarters combat system. Speed and efficiency are its trademark.

Wing Chun uses sensitivity training to make fighting instinctive. When you can fight without thinking you perform at a much higher level.

You will learn how to build habits of how to react instantaneously to all self-defense situations. Wing Chun does not have complicated techniques that are unlikely to work in a real-life fight.

It doesn't have the flashy kicks of Karate, Tae Kwon Do, or Kickboxing.

Instead, Wing Chun simplifies its techniques and strategies so that you can be ready to defend yourself quickly.

Richard J and Richard P

Kali / Escrima / Arnis

Kali, Arnis, And Escrima are all names for styles that come from the Philipines. These are weapon-based arts.

Kali, Arnis, And Escrima, are known for having the best strategies for dealing with knives and edged weaponry. Thus, it is one of the main arts studied by special forces around the world.

Although these Filipino martial arts are famous because of the practical weapon defenses, they do contain self-defense techniques. The empty hand curriculum is sometimes known as Panantukan or Suntukan.

Judo

Japanese Judo is a throwing art. Judo is one of the best styles for learning take-downs, tackles, and trips.

Judo is a combative sport. Students compete against each other to try and score points. Points are given for every clean throw. Points can also be one by pinning your opponent to the ground and immobilizing them for half a minute.

Although Judo is a sport and not primarily focused on self-defense (Judo has no punches or karate kicks), It can definitely be used to defend yourself, If you can first strike using some of the other systems offered at our academy then your throwing techniques will become effective for self-defense.

Jeet Kune Do Concepts

Jeet Kune Do is not a style. JKD is better defined as a set of concepts and ideas that you apply to create your own style of fighting.

JKD was created by Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee originally started out by combining two martial arts Western fencing and Wing Chun. He found that he liked some aspects of each style but did not care for other aspects.

Eventually, Bruce Lee learned and incorporate many techniques from various styles like Karate, Wing Chun, Jujitsu, Tae Kwon Do, and Kickboxing to create a way of fighting that was unique to him. He realized that every person will also eventually their own unique style of fighting based on their personality, experience and body type.

Shaolin Kung Fu

Shaolin Kung fu is an ancient system of combat. Long ago, the Buddhist monks who lived at the Shaolin Temple, need a way to defend themselves from attack. Their temple was built far into the mountains. If they were attacked there was no one around to protect them.

Thus, these peaceful monks added daily training in the art of Kung fu to make sure they could defend themselves.

However, the Shaolin Monks also found that Kung Fu gave them the ability to maintain their health through their daily practice of the art

Kung Fu eventually was brought to Japan where it evolved into Karate

Karate eventually was brought to Korea where it became Tae Kwon Do

You will learn real self-defense that can save your life

But make no mistake about it...

Our Adult Martial Arts program teaches essential self-defense skills. Furthermore, we teach practical, proven self-defense methods that do not rely on individual techniques but rather on principles.

Honestly, real self-defense is not taught at many martial arts schools. Even in MMA, there are quite a few rules that limit you to what you do.

Self-defense starts by knowing how to avoid conflict. Martial artists always walk away from potential fights whenever they can. Martial arts techniques are only used when there is no other option.

That being said, you will learn to quickly incapacitate an attacker using practical self-defense techniques.

For example, you are not allowed to Karate or  Tae Kwon Do kick, your opponent in the groin in a boxing match. Moreover, you are not allowed to use any kind of weapon. There are no multiple attackers. Sometimes, strikes to the sensitive areas of the human body such as the eyes throat and groin are all fair game in a real-life self-defense confrontation. One must remember, there are no rules when it comes to protecting yourself and your family.

It is most likely that there is no help on the way and at this point, it will be up to you to go home safe.

The adult martial arts curriculum is put together from reality-based styles and systems. For example, Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Wing Chun, Kali, and Kung Fu are all self-defense based styles that are not meant for the ring.

Don't get me wrong, sport martial arts such as wrestling and  kickboxing can be used for self-defense. However, the best styles are the ancient martial arts I have mentioned above because they were designed from the ground up to be practical and effective.

You will receive personalized instruction

The only way to get you the benefits that you are looking for is to make every class personalized for each student.Let me show you exactly how this works:

First

First, when you come to class it is my job to find out what kind of learner you are. Sometimes, people learn very well through verbal instructions. On the other hand, other students may learn from having me physically go and move their arms in the correct position.

However, others may learn best from seeing some of the advanced students perform movements.

At our academy, there are many teaching techniques we use in class to make sure that every single student walks away from the class with something fresh. However, this doesn't mean we teach something new each class. Instead, we found a way to keep things interesting.

Second

Next, when you start Adult Martial Arts classes at our school you will not just be a number in the crowd. Of course, we (the instructors) know every single student's name in our entire school, and you will soon know everyone's name as well.

Throughout my life, I have been to many martial arts schools and kickboxing classes. Unfortunately, I would at times have to work partner drills with people without even knowing each other's name! At our academy, it is a friendly atmosphere and we all know each other's name.

After all, don't you want to train at a school where everyone is friendly and the atmosphere is non-intimidating?

Here’s what people are saying about our school.

I've been training at the Las Vegas Kung Fu Academy for about four months so far.

I came in without any previous martial arts training. I checked out 5 other Karate and Tae Kwoin Do Dojos before coming here.

BOTH the teachers AND students at the Kung Fu Academy are very welcoming. Everyone made me feel comfortable. Instructor Kevin has an insane amount of knowledge and experience across multiple styles.

He always speaks with patience and an awareness of your individual needs. He also has a sense of humor that keeps the classes fun. It's made a big difference in my life,

My favorite part of class is when we do sparring and kickboxing. When I first started I was really afraid of sparring but now I just l love it!

I highly recommend this school!

I am very grateful to have been able to know and learn from you and your family.

It has been almost 2 years now, but it seems much shorter. The time has flown by. I feel so much stronger in every sense possible. Because I have been making Kung Fu a part of my life.

There are so many benefits, where do I begin? From the tremendous boost in self-confidence to the power and speed in which I have developed. The friendships I have made attending classes, and the art forms I have learned. Every aspect of my life has enormously improved I feel directly in response to martial arts training.

Life outside for the school can sometimes interfere with training and makes it challenging to make it to class on time or at all. That is what Kung Fu is though “Hard Work”. I look forward to continuing my training and the improvements I will see as time goes by. So, with my deepest and sincerest respect to you and your family. Thank you.
